Easy Sponge Cake Recipe

This easy sponge cake recipe is perfect for beginners. It's light, fluffy, and delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the sugar and eggs until light and fluffy. Beat in the milk and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients alternately with the milk, beating just until combined.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool cake completely before frosting.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of skim milk.
  • To make a chocolate sponge cake, add 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder to the dry ingredients.
  • To make a vanilla sponge cake, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the batter.
  • To make a lemon sponge cake, add 1 teaspoon of lemon zest and 1/4 teaspoon of lemon extract to the batter.
