This easy sponge cake recipe is perfect for beginners. It's light, fluffy, and delicious.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the sugar and eggs until light and fluffy. Beat in the milk and vanilla extract.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients alternately with the milk, beating just until combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool cake completely before frosting.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of skim milk.
- To make a chocolate sponge cake, add 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder to the dry ingredients.
- To make a vanilla sponge cake, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the batter.
- To make a lemon sponge cake, add 1 teaspoon of lemon zest and 1/4 teaspoon of lemon extract to the batter.
