This bread pudding is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert. The bread is soaked in a custard mixture, then baked until golden brown. The sauce is made with butter, sugar, and cream, and it's the perfect complement to the rich and creamy bread pudding.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf stale bread, cut into cubes
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine bread cubes, milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
- Pour bread mixture into prepared baking dish.
- In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add sugar and cream, and cook until sugar is dissolved.
- Pour sauce over bread pudding.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until pudding is set and golden brown.
- Serve warm with additional sauce, if desired.
Tips
- Use a stale bread for the best results. The bread will absorb more of the custard mixture and will be less likely to become soggy.
- To make the bread pudding ahead of time, assemble the dish up to the point of baking. Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When ready to bake, remove from the refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
- Serve the bread pudding warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.
