This easy homemade cinnamon roll recipe is perfect for a weekend brunch or a special occasion. The dough is soft and fluffy, and the cinnamon sugar filling is simply irresistible.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
- 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
- Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and flour to the yeast mixture. Beat until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, make the filling by combining the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12x18 inch rectangle.
- Spread the filling over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Sprinkle with the pecans (if using).
- Roll the dough up tightly, starting with the long side.
- Cut the dough into 1-inch slices.
- Place the rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Cover the rolls with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, make the glaze by combining the confectioners' sugar and milk in a small bowl.
- Remove the rolls from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before glazing.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
- To make a crusty cinnamon roll, sprinkle the top of the rolls with cornmeal before baking.
- To make a flavored cinnamon roll, add 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 1/2 cup of chopped sun-dried tomatoes, or 1/2 cup of chopped fresh herbs to the dough.
