Greek Baklava |
Greek baklava is a traditional dessert made with phyllo dough, nuts, and honey syrup. It is a popular dessert in Greece and throughout the Middle East.
To make Greek baklava, you will need the following ingredients:
- 25-30 sheets of phyllo dough
- 500g (17 oz.) walnuts, chopped
- 2 tsps cinnamon powder
- 2 tsps ground cloves
- 300g (10 oz.) melted butter
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
- Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine the walnuts, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Place 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the prepared baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Sprinkle half of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Repeat layers of phyllo dough, butter, and nut mixture, ending with a layer of phyllo dough brushed with butter.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the baklava into diamonds or squares.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- While the baklava is baking, make the honey syrup. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 1/2 cup of honey. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the sugar has dissolved.
- Remove the baklava from the oven and pour the honey syrup over the top.
- Let the baklava cool completely before serving.
Tips:
- If you don't have phyllo dough, you can use puff pastry.
- You can use any type of nuts you like in the baklava.
- If you don't have a 9x13 inch baking dish, you can use a larger or smaller dish, but adjust the baking time accordingly.
- The honey syrup can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
- Baklava is best served at room temperature.
Enjoy!
