This homemade marshmallow recipe is perfect for a fun and festive activity with kids. The marshmallows are light and fluffy, and they're sure to be a hit with everyone at your next party.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 cup unflavored gelatin
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Once the mixture comes to a boil, stop stirring and let it cook for 5 minutes without stirring.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water. Let it sit for 5 minutes, or until the gelatin is softened.
- After the 5 minutes are up, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the gelatin until it is dissolved.
- Immediately pour the mixture into a large bowl and beat on high speed with a hand mixer for 10 minutes, or until the marshmallows are light and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla extract and beat for an additional minute.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Pour the marshmallow mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it out evenly.
- Let the marshmallows cool completely, then cut them into desired shapes.
- Store the marshmallows in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use dark corn syrup.
- To make the marshmallows even more decadent, add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the batter.
