This homemade marshmallow recipe is perfect for a fun and festive activity with kids. The marshmallows are light and fluffy, and they're sure to be a hit with everyone at your next party.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup unflavored gelatin
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  2. Once the mixture comes to a boil, stop stirring and let it cook for 5 minutes without stirring.
  3. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water. Let it sit for 5 minutes, or until the gelatin is softened.
  4. After the 5 minutes are up, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the gelatin until it is dissolved.
  5. Immediately pour the mixture into a large bowl and beat on high speed with a hand mixer for 10 minutes, or until the marshmallows are light and fluffy.
  6. Add the vanilla extract and beat for an additional minute.
  7. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Pour the marshmallow mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it out evenly.
  9. Let the marshmallows cool completely, then cut them into desired shapes.
  10. Store the marshmallows in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use dark corn syrup.
  • To make the marshmallows even more decadent, add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the batter.
