Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for brushing on the dough
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Let stand for 5 minutes, until the yeast is foamy.
- Stir in the salt and flour until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 260 degrees C.
- Punch down the dough and divide it in half.
- Roll out each half of the dough into a 12-inch circle or 30-cm.
- Brush the dough with olive oil and top with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil leaves.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
