Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for brushing on the dough
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Let stand for 5 minutes, until the yeast is foamy.
  2. Stir in the salt and flour until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 260 degrees C.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it in half.
  7. Roll out each half of the dough into a 12-inch circle or 30-cm.
  8. Brush the dough with olive oil and top with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil leaves.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
