Homemade Jalebi Recipe: Popular Indian Sweet Treat

Jalebi

Jalebi is a popular Indian sweet that is made with a batter of flour, water, and sugar. It is fried until golden brown and is often served with syrup or honey.

Here is a recipe for Jalebi:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Oil or ghee for frying
  • Syrup:
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, water, sugar, and baking soda until smooth.
  2. Heat the oil or ghee in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Pour the batter into a squeeze bottle or a piping bag with a star tip.
  4. Pipe the batter into the hot oil in a spiral pattern.
  5. Fry the Jalebi for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  6. Remove the Jalebi from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. To make the syrup, heat the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
  8. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.
  9. Add the cardamom powder and stir to combine.
  10. Let the syrup cool slightly.
  11. Pour the syrup over the Jalebi and serve immediately.

Tips:

  • For a more flavorful Jalebi, you can add a few drops of rose water or kewra water to the batter.
  • To prevent the Jalebi from sticking to the pan, make sure the oil is hot enough before adding the batter.
  • If the Jalebi are browning too quickly, reduce the heat to medium-low.
  • The Jalebi can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Enjoy!
