This delicious Caramel Sauce is easy to make and perfect for drizzling over ice cream, cake, or fruit. It's also great for making caramel apples or dipping donuts.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and heavy cream.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and turns a deep amber color.
- Remove from heat and stir in the butter, salt, and vanilla extract.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
- To make the sauce ahead of time, let it cool completely and then store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. When you're ready to serve, reheat the sauce over low heat until it's warmed through.
- If you want to make a thicker caramel sauce, cook it for a longer period of time, stirring occasionally, until it reaches the desired consistency.
- To make a thinner caramel sauce, add more heavy cream or milk.
- Caramel sauce can be used for a variety of desserts, including ice cream, cake, fruit, caramel apples, and donuts.
Enjoy!
