Chicken Parmesan

Chicken parmesan is a classic Italian dish that is made with breaded and fried chicken cutlets that are topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. It is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a special occasion or a casual weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, pounded to 1/4-inch thickness
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a shallow dish, combine flour, salt, and pepper. In another shallow dish, beat egg. In a third shallow dish, combine panko bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Dip chicken breasts in flour mixture, then egg mixture, then panko mixture, pressing to coat evenly.
  4. Heat 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken breasts in hot oil for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Transfer chicken breasts to a baking dish. Top with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired. Serve immediately.

Tips

  • For a more crispy crust, you can double-dip the chicken breasts in the panko mixture.
  • If you don't have panko bread crumbs, you can use regular bread crumbs.
  • You can use any type of marinara sauce that you like.
  • You can also use a different type of cheese, such as provolone or cheddar.
  • To make this dish ahead of time, you can bread and fry the chicken breasts, then assemble the dish and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. When you are ready to bake, simply remove the dish from the refrigerator and bake as directed.

Enjoy!
